Bobby Moore serves as the platform and open source strategist for Microsoft’s U.S. Business and Marketing Organization. In this role, Moore drives internal and external evangelism of the needs and benefits of supporting and interacting with the open source communities. In addition Moore acts to consult the U.S. sales and marketing organization on integrating with the open source community and further pushing interoperability as well as platform adoption.
Moore, along with fellow product managers, also oversees and contributes to the overall Windows Server platform strategy.
Previously, Moore worked on the Microsoft U.S. Information Worker team, where he worked to drive the U.S. Information Worker sales and marketing strategy for Microsoft's largest enterprise customers.
Moore joined Microsoft in 1998 as a program manager intern and eventually became a full-time program manager on the Internet Explorer browser user interface team; after working on a consumer version of Internet Explorer, he contributed to the first version of MSN® Explorer.
Throughout his career Moore participated in a number of external facing dialogues and presentations on Microsoft’s behalf including participation in the last three Microsoft Office launches and other high-profile tech enthusiast events such as COMDEX Keynotes and Microsoft Extreme events for end user enthusiasts.
Moore holds a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering from the University of Michigan. He resides in Redmond, WA. and his interests include reading, snowboarding and other sports. Moore is an avid fan of Detroit sports teams and Michigan Wolverines college football.

Today there is low awareness of Microsoft's Open Source efforts; however, Microsoft has had strong and increasing participation in the open source community. The purpose of this talk is to detail Microsoft's open source activities and history in interacting with open source as well as explain why Microsoft's open source strategy is fundamental to the success of the organization.
