Paul McMahan

Biography

Paul McMahan began his career as a software engineer in 1996 at the University of Tennessee's Innovative Computing Laboratory. During his academic research he became an avid user of the open source technologies that are now commonly referred to as LAMP. Seeking to become more involved in the development and widespread adoption of open source technologies eventually led Paul to IBM, which he joined in 2000. Joining IBM enabled him to use and contribute to several open source projects such as Eclipse, Apache Tomcat, and Linux. In 2006 Paul became a code committer at the Apache Software Foundation and currently devotes most of his time to working on the Apache Geronimo project, which is an open source implementation of the Java Enterpise application server. He currently lives near Raleigh, NC with his wife and four children ages 3, 5, 7, and 9. Family life occupies most of his time but in his spare cycles he enjoys hacking his DVR.
